Economical methods for measuring road surface roughness

Two low-cost methods of estimating the road surface condition are presented in paper, first one based on use accelerometers and other analysis images acquired from cameras installed a vehicle. In method, miniature positioning accelerometer sensors used for evaluation roughness. The device designed installation vehicles is composed GPS receiver multi-axis accelerometer. measurement data were collected recorded ride sessions taken place diversified roughness conditions at varied vehicle speeds each examined sections. gathered various body types afterwards successful attempts made constructing classification employing created algorithm. turn, video set algorithms processing depth camera RGB created. A representative sample material to be analysed was obtained neural network model defects trained. research has shown high effectiveness applying digital image rejection undamaged surface, exceeding 80%. Average identification amounted 70%. paper presents collecting related damage as well results analyses conclusions.
